Stand!

(Feature Film)

Stand! is the movie adaptation of Juno-award-winning composer Danny Schur and Rick Chafe’s hit musical, “Strike”.  Winnipeg, circa 1919 – Stefan and his father Mike left Ukraine to earn enough to re-unite the family in Canada.  Stefan is instantly smitten with his neighbour, the Jewish suffragette, Rebecca – but Mike and Rebecca’s brother, Moishe, oppose the would-be Romeo and Juliet.  Meanwhile, unemployed soldiers returning from WWI vent their anger on the city’s immigrants, including Emma, the refugee from racist lynchings in the United States.  When an organized labour movement coalesces and a general strike – where all workers from across the city walk off the job in protest of unfair working conditions, wealthy businessman AJ Anderson pits all parties against each other in a dramatic and inspirational final stand.
