Scared of My Shadow

(Documentary)

Scared of My Shadow is a documentary that explores how real and perceived fears are affecting the way North Americans raise their children. Filmmaker Mark Miller sits down with real parents who are worried about their kids’ safety and the safety of their communities. Miller investigates how a culture of fear has created a generation of bubble-wrapped children unable to fend for themselves.  He then presents the various sociological theories about the damage this “over protection” may have on society a generation from now. Themes include the role of media in public paranoia, changing patterns in parenting, anxiety-based disorders, public health, crime trends in rural and urban communities, adolescent development as well as violence towards, and by, young people.
