(1 x 1-hour)
It was a uniquely bizarre moment in sports history. With seconds left in the game, as Montreal’s final field goal attempt sailed wide of the uprights, Saskatchewan faithful knew that the cup was theirs. Except – it wasn’t.
The 13th Man explores the fine line between winning and wondering what might have been – and in the process, reveals a unique love affair between the Saskatchewan Roughriders and its fans that extends far beyond what happens on the field.
The film introduces us to the place where everyone owns team gear and even “bleeds green”. Among those in “Rider Nation”, every day is game day. Traveling around the country we meet the people who make up the fervent fan base, including two nuns who often appeal to higher powers to assist their favourite team.
But nothing could prepare the fans for the hope and devastating disappointment of the 2009, Grey Cup. The 13th Man takes viewers back to that fateful November night. We recapture the energy on the field and in the stands as we revisit the game with the players and coaches who lived it.
Who was the 13th Man? Will we ever know? Does it even matter? In a manner that transcends sport and speaks to every fan, the answer is revealed in an emotional climax.
